Congrats! I just found about your group and I think it is a great project. I live in California with my husband right now, but we are the owners of the property 608 E. Passyunk, just across from the park. We support your efforts and would like to help, if possible, despite of the distance. Take care, Marilia

Hi There: I live just a block away from Triangle Park, and was excited to see some positive things going on with the lot. Now I've noticed that it is back up for sale, and I'd like to get involved to help preserve the plans to keep it a modest open space. Please let me know how I can be most helpful! -Zach

Hello, I'm working on a video postcard project, and decided to do a test 'card' in response to the developments of Triangle Park. Laura

Thanks goes out to Triangle Park memeber and writer Pat for mentioning us in the City Paper. Below is an excerpt. You can read the full article here.
Bizarre, Loved Triangle
On April 4, the day of the Philly Spring Cleanup, Mayor Nutter showed up at the newly christened Triangle Park in Bella Vista to plant an apple tree and throw some support behind the plan to turn this oddly shaped speck of land at Passyunk and Christian into a flowery green space. These days, however, there's a sign some 5 feet from the tree: "Prime Investment Opportunity." Although the owner of the property has put the site — a former gas station with soil contaminated by a leaky tank — up for sale, he's still working with the Friends of Triangle Park, hoping to make a deal with the city. Thanks to Cathy, David, Russell, Judy, Joni, and John who wrote to support the mission of the Friends of Triangle Park (FOTP) to foster the acquisition of the site bounded by Christian, Passyunk, and Sixth streets in Bella Vista, for the purpose of creating a green and open space (Triangle Park) for the betterment of the neighborhood and the enjoyment of the residents. The immediate benefit will be to return an unused piece of property to a valued asset for neighbors and residents of the area. The garden-like appearance will encourage all to view the area as a community asset and work to improve the appearance of all adjoining properties, a mix of mostly residential and some commercial including restaurants.

I was so excited to come and participate in the first cleanup last July and heard that there was a proposal to turn a trash strewn plot into a park. Not only will the park enhance an already wonderful neighborhood that I have lived in for 5 years, but it is good for the environment to plant trees and shrubbery. I have lived in different sections of Center City for more than 30 years and love what our city has to offer, but I think we need as many green spaces as possible. -Lucy

My wife and I are fairly recent transplants to the area and to Queen Village. We were drawn to the area by its variety – housing + neighborhood feel, restaurants, green space and proximity. While all of these are positives for the area, there is still room for improvement. While the city can boast Broad St. as the “Avenue of the Arts” and Market St. in the financial/business center of town, I would argue that Passyunk Ave. is the main street for the people and daily life of Philadelphia. An interesting route, that touches all corners of the city, south-north and east-west. There are many interesting pockets along its extents, which result from its intersection with the city grid. In many areas, these intersections become the hub for neighborhood identity – whether it be murals, cheesesteaks, parks, or fountains. Some intersections aren’t afforded much opportunity to become a true place, more of an enlarged traffic intersection. That said, the city should strive to allow the areas that are prime for space and place making to flourish. Much like the way stations of ancient Roman civilizations – these nodes can be places of respite, gathering, celebration, and beauty.
Triangle Park is well on its way to these goals, as businesses and restaurants have eyes on the street and serve as destination points to further activate the intersection. The simple cleanup and minimal temporary plantings have had an appreciable impact on the area. More people are walking on that side of the street. There is less litter. And of course it looks much better than an abandoned dirt lot. In keeping with the mayor’s sustainability principles and a desire towards more livable cities – developing Triangle Park into a true space fits that bill. The addition of vegetation aids in cleaning the air, lowering the overall heat island effects in the area from impervious surfaces, and will encourage further beautification of the area. These are all positive, and in my opinion hard to argue against.
I regret I will not be able to attend tonite, but hope the meeting is fruitful.
Best,

To Whom it May Concern,
We cannot attend this evenings meeting as we have a school play at Meredith to attend. I am writing my support instead.
We walk to school and work each morning along Passyunk and the difference in the Triangle since we have planted it is inspiring!
We know that our son has already learned about planting, civic duty, transformation, empowerment and beauty from our involvement in helping create this small park. A green space on a brown filed… what could be better?
We have the community will to make it beautiful. When it is a park I will certainly expect to rest with my child and enjoy the plants, play there, pass thought it every day and smell the flowers.
These small parks seem insignificant , but they are not. They are essential to growing families, the elderly and all others to meet and greet each on the and stay connected.
We hope that the city and community see this as a valuable treasure and supports it with the purchase of the land. - Laura A Blau AIA LEED, BluPath

I'm really excited that you guys took the initiative to take over the triangle and put in some green space. I moved into the neighborhood 5 years ago, when it was a dilapidated gas station and often though somebody ought to plant a big weeping willow tree there!! It looks so much better!! thank you. -Kevin

My name is Oren Hechtman. My girlfriend, Carla, and I live directly across the street from the triangle on the 6th St. side. We were very concerned when we moved in to the apartment in December that the vacant lot would become a some hideous new building. We are both very excited about the park and can't wait to look out our windows and see a beautiful patch of greenery. I would love to be as involved as possible in the creation of the park. Please let me know what I can do.

I live on the 900 block of Kimball. How can I help to mobilize my neighbors to lobby City Council? - Marty Way to go! Very impressive! We have been greening and cleaning for the past twenty years, before it even became socially acceptable and responsible. Your Flickr slideshow was very impressive and I can't wait to see the lot blossom and grow. What an impact all of you are making in the community! Please keep up the good work and I'll try to join your efforts when I can…I've won many awards from Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee and Philadelphia Green, so I have lots of urban greening experience. I'm here for you guys, so feel free to call or stop by. Thanks for all your hard work! - Anna
