Be a Part of the Progress

Who We Are

With full cooperation of the owner, area residents have stripped the park of trash and vegetation We also backfilled and leveled the uneven surface with city-supplied clean dirt.  Another neighbor dispatched a concrete crew, dug up and replaced the broken concrete on the 6th Street side of the park. On an ongoing basis, neighbors turn out on Philadelphia More Beautiful clean up days to maintain the lot.

Plans are in the works to ask the city to acquire the lot.  It would be held by the Neighborhood Gardens Association, a Philadelphia Land Trust in perpetuity as a green space for Bella Vista residents to enjoy.  Group leaders have met with Councilman DiCicco, who has initially favored the idea and is exploring whether Neighborhood Transformation Initiative funds might become available.

In the meantime, plans are being drawn for two pathways to cross the lot and for large planted areas with trees, plants, and shrubs in an attractive and low maintenance design.

You can see images of these plans on our home page.
